Many Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles built since
1997 are equipped with a Cabin Air Filtration System. While most people
may not even know their vehicle has such a feature, they certainly
benefit from its performance.
How it Works
The Cabin Air Filtration System filters outside air, which enters
the passenger compartment through the vehicle's heating, ventilation
and air conditioning systems.
Air entering the vehicle can contain millions of microscopic particles,
such as dust, pollen and spores. The Cabin Air Filter removes more
than 90 percent of airborne particles that are larger than 3 microns.
What's a micron? The average grain of beach sand measures about
200 microns.
When to Replace Your Cabin Air Filter
To keep working effectively, the system's filter must be replaced
every 15,000 miles, or once each year. In especially dusty or polluted
environments, the filter should be replaced more often.
The Benefits of Replacing the Cabin Air Filter
- You'll breath easier. The air in your passenger compartment
will be virtually free of particulates.
- Maintaining your cabin air filter helps ensure that your heating
and cooling systems will operate efficiently.
