How to Be A Environmentally Sound Driver

Regular maintenance is not only good for your vehicle, it's good for the environment. Here are some tips that can help accomplish both!

  • Maintain a proper engine tune-up to keep your vehicle running efficiently.
  • Keep the wheels aligned. Wheels that are fighting each other waste fuel.
  • Make sure tires aren't underinflated. Check your vehicle's doorpost decal for minimum cold tire inflation pressure. You'll not only extend the life of your tires, but you'll also increase fuel efficiency.
  • Use a fuel with a good detergent additive for a cleaner, more efficient engine.
  • Avoid piling a lot of luggage on the roof rack. It reduces aerodynamics and hurts fuel economy.
  • Start your car and immediately, but gently, drive away. Don't leave it idling.
  • Avoid rapid acceleration. Jackrabbit starts waste fuel.
  • Drive the speed limit. It may save a life as well as fuel.
  • Use your air conditioner sparingly. Use the vent setting as much as possible.
  • Park in the shade. This is one way to reduce the need for air conditioning.
